After an early successful penalty kick from Arene Landon-Lane, Wellington outside centre Merania Paraone was a standout figure for the Pride, and scored the first try of the match, dotting down after a quick, flick pass down the blindside from scrum half Milly Mackey.

Then, fullback Litia Bulicakau broke through in the midfield and slipped a pass to winger Ana Kerr, who skipped in for the simplest of tries.

Just three minutes later a scrum set piece on the edge of Northland's 22 saw Wellington score again, this time a cut out pass from Paraone found Kerr who added to her tally for the season, taking her to the top of the competition standings for tries scored, and Wellington were 18-0 up with 15 minutes remaining in the first half.

Then came the Kauri though. Lily-Jean Murray-Wihongi spotted a gap and darted through into the Pride 22, ultimately leading to a penalty, which was tapped quickly by Kredence Brown, who broke through three tackles to score the sky blue's first try.

A break from Michella’e Stolz down the left wing saw the Kauri in again after a few phases. Murray-Wihongi was the last pair of hands in a chain heading towards the corner flag, she beat a defender and dotted down to slim the margin to 18-10.

And in the shadow of the halftime hooter, Murray-Wihongi was in again. This time she grabbed a cut out pass from Krystal Murray heading left and outgassed her opposite to dive in near the corner flag.

It would have seen the half time score at 18-15 to the home side, but for loose ball at the ruck snapped up by Lynda Rabeni-Vatuloka. She sprinted away untouched to dot down under the posts, seeing the score 25-15 instead.

Ten minutes into the second stanza, a loose pass at the back saw Paraone pounce once again, toeing the ball ahead and diving on it over the line.

After another Kerr breakaway down the left wing, she was dragged down a couple of metres out, but the defence were off their feet in the counter-ruck and the resulting penalty quickly tapped.

A drive from Keiana Roffey saw the Pride over once again, blowing the score out to 39-15.

The Kauri fought hard to get something out of the final 15 minutes, but it was one-way traffic, and after the hooter the ball was flung back to the grateful arms of Landon-Lane who booted it into the stands, clinching the victory for Wellington.
