The squad features six players with All Blacks experience (not including those currently on international duty), with Ethan Blackadder, Shannon Frizell, Finlay Christie, David Havili, Noah Hotham and Timoci Tavatavanawai set to bring significant experience and leadership to the Mako campaign.

Frizell’s return to the Mako jersey is a major boost for the side, with the loose forward bringing more than 30 Test appearances for the All Blacks and a wealth of Super Rugby experience.

Alongside the established stars is a group of emerging players who will once again make their mark on the competition, including Macca Springer, Eli Oudenryn, Monu Moli and Antonio Shalfoon.

The young talent will be looking to build on impressive performances in recent seasons, with the group eager to continue their development and play an important role in the Mako’s campaign.

The Mako have also strengthened their squad with several new additions, including Australian Super Rugby players Richie Asiata and Rory Scott, who join Lopeti Faifua as new recruits for the 2026 season.

Asiata brings 45 Super Rugby appearances for the Queensland Reds and previous provincial experience with Northland, while Scott joins after making 62 appearances for the Brumbies since his debut in 2021.

Former Mako captain Finlay Christie and prop Sam Matenga will begin the season sidelined after injuries sustained while representing the Blues during Super Rugby Pacific.
