Otago Rugby has assembled a strong squad ahead of the 2026 NPC season, combining provincial experience, international talent and emerging players looking to make their mark.

Tongan international Patrick Pellegrini is among the new additions, bringing valuable experience from the professional game.

The first five-eighths has represented Tonga at Test level, including at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, and starred for Moana Pasifika in DHL Super Rugby Pacific. Known for his composure, game management and accurate kicking, Pellegrini adds another quality option in Otago’s backline.

Otago have also strengthened their halfback stocks, with Joel Lam and Kieran McClea joining the squad. Lam, a former Crusaders Academy player, returns to rugby after a stint in league and brings experience from the international stage after being selected in the Samoan squad for the Pacific Nations Cup. McClea returns to Otago after previously representing the union, most recently playing for Mid Canterbury. While Dylan Pledger has been named as part of the wider squad he is not expected to feature this season as he continues recovering from injury.

There is plenty of experience throughout the squad, with Liam Coltman set to provide leadership in the front row alongside the likes of Saula Ma’u, Abraham Pole, Rohan Wingham and Henry Bell.

Powerful Fijian lock Joseva Tamani returns for another season, while the forward pack also features a strong group of loose forwards including Christian Lio-Willie, Will Stodart, Oliver Haig and breakout performer Lucas Casey. It’s hoped Fabian Holland might appear when he returns from injury.

In the backs, Otago will look to the pace and creativity of Jona Nareki and Finn Hurley, while experienced midfielder Josh Timu will also provide a steady presence in the midfield.

With several experienced players moving on, Otago will look to a blend of established campaigners and new faces as they aim to make their mark in the 2026 Bunnings NPC competition.
